Let's Raise Taxes to pay for the Global War on Poverty and our uninsured citizens . . .
A new President with "Changed" valuesIf Obama wants to fight the Global War on Poverty, the same way LBJ wanted to fight the War on Poverty in 1964 in the USA (and it did not work then), then brace yourself for these expenses - he will have to increase income taxes by least $8,500 per family. This number does not include the reversal of the Geroge W. Bush tax cuts in early 2001. Add these two numbers together for a real shocker.
Moreover, we sent $2 billion dollars to clean up after Hurricane Katrina along the Gulf Coast. And now the question looms before us - where did all that money go? You may be able to ask the same question when we begin to "fight" the war on global poverty. It will probably go to support some idiotic dictator of some forgotten country and perpetuate the poverty within and the luxurious lifestyle of the despot. It's happened before and it will happen again. The one thing that we can all count on is that "Change" does not necessarily mean change even though we are supposed to believe it is. I suppose if you tell a lie enough, it sooner or later, becomes the truth, or at least has the perception of being true.

Moreover, if you think universal health care will be cheap, you can add another $500 (or much more) to that income tax bill just to pay for universal health care. By the way, I'm paying $96.40 per month for Medicare Premiums so my estimate of $500 is probably about $1,000 short.
There is no such thing as a free lunch, unless you have a welfare-state mindset, but someone is paying for that "free lunch." And don't overlook Economics Class 101 and the law of Supply and Demand - not enough doctors or medical facilities to handle 40,000,000 uninsured people that will literally flood the system, with anything from headaches to broken bones or gun shots. And that will only be during the early days of the system. If you think Universal Health Care is an answer then you only have to look at the 35-year old Department of Energy created shortly after the 1973 Arab Oil Embargo and look at their progress in developing an energy plan . . . it's 2008 and we still have no workable plan, moreover our oil imports are at the highest point as are energy costs. We are still being held hostage by OPEC and our own do-nothing & finger-pointing Congress
It may take a year to get an appointment with a doctor if you are really sick and a trip to the emergency room may turn into a week long wait to see a medical person, nurse, doctor, or the insurance receptionist. A veterinarian could be your best bet or you could take a trip to Canada and try out their health care system.
Seems to me that the United Nations should be involved in the Global War On Poverty but then they are only a symbolic non-functioning group of feckless bureucrats with their own personal biases and racial and ethnic hatreds, "but then I could be wrong" (you can find that song on YouTube - adult language).
Perhaps the more sensible thing to do is to pay our pro-rata share of the UN's bill based on our 1 in 200 (.5%) membership rather than the 20-25% that we are now paying and let the rest of the membership foot their share based on the pro-rata basis. Then the next thing we do is to relocate the UN and all its sycophants out of the USA and to another host country - and the sooner the better. We don't need to pay for up-dating the old UN building, we need to demolish it and the sooner the better. I'll bet there are some demolishing companies that would be the job for a pittance.
My how we have changed . . .
A New President?, A new President with "Changed" valuesI didn't write it, but I'll certainly pass it on! I know everyone has a different opinion on the war against Islamic terrorism and our current President, but this article makes a lot of sense, take 2 minutes, read it and give it some thought.
When electing the next President, "the only decision you have to make is who you want sitting in that seat in the White House when - not if – but WHEN we get hit again and millions of American lives are put at risk or are lost!"
This is from: "You ain't gonna like losing." Author unknown.
President Bush did make a bad mistake in the war on terrorism. However, the mistake was not his decision to go to war in
Back then, we had just come out of a vicious depression. The country’s resolve was steeled by the hardship of that depression, but we still believed fervently in this country. We knew that we had elected our leaders, so it was our duty to support those leaders.
Therefore, when the war broke out, we came together, rallied behind, and stuck with our leaders, whether we had voted for them or not or whether the war was going badly or not. And, early on, the war was going very badly for us.
War was just as distasteful and the anguish just as great then as it is today. Often there were more casualties in one day in WWII than we have had in the entire
Everyone from every strata of society, from young to old pitched in. Small children pulled little wagons around to gather scrap metal for the war effort. Grade school students saved their pennies to buy stamps for war bonds to help the effort.
Men who were either too old or "4F" (medically unfit according to military standards) lied about their age or medical condition trying their best to join the military. Some as young as 16-years of age lied about their age and joined the military.
Women doubled their work to keep things going at home. Harsh rationing of everything from gasoline, tires, soap, meat, sugar, and butter was imposed, yet there was very little complaining.
You never heard prominent people on the radio belittling the President. Interestingly enough in those days there were no fat-cat-actors and entertainers who ran off to visit and fawn over dictators of hostile countries and complain to them about our President. Instead, they made upbeat films and entertained our troops to help the troops' morale. Moreover, a number of those
In addition, teachers in schools actually started the day off with a Pledge of Allegiance and with prayers for our country and our troops!
Back then, no newspaper would have dared point out certain weak spots in our cities where bombs could be set off to cause the maximum damage. No newspaper would have dared complain about what we were doing to catch spies and we shot some spies that had slipped into this country. A newspaper would have been laughed out of existence if it had complained that German or Japanese soldiers were being 'tortured' by being forced to wear women's underwear, or subjected to interrogation by a woman, or being scared by a dog or did not have air conditioning.
There were a lot of things different back then. We were not subjected to a constant bombardment of pornography, perversion and promiscuity in movies or on radio. We did not have legions of crack heads, dope pushers and armed gangs roaming our streets.
No, President Bush did not make a mistake in his handling of terrorism. He made the mistake of believing that we still had the courage, integrity, values and the fortitude of that Greatest Generation. He believed that this was still the country that our fathers and grandfathers fought so dearly to preserve.
It is not the same country. It is now a cross between
We are in great danger. The terrorists are fanatic fundamentalist Muslims. They believe that it is their duty to kill anyone who will not convert to Islam. They want us to go back a 7th Century life style and their way of life. It has been estimated that about one third or over three hundred million Muslims are sympathetic to the terrorists cause... Hitler, Mussolini, and Tojo combined did not have that many potential suicidal recruits. So . . . we either win it - or we lose it - and we ain't gonna like losing it.
Remember ... Obama said in his book "The Audacity of Hope", 'I will stand with the Muslims should the political winds shift in an ugly direction' . . . what better place for the Muslins to control our country, than in the office of the President of USA. The joke may be on us!
